Greenville College marks transition to Greenville University with new athletic graphic identity

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- After 125 years functioning as Greenville College, the institution marked its legal transition to Greenville University in a ceremony today as they buried a time capsule in the location of the new Hogue Memorial Tower.  As a part of this transiton, the Greenville University athletic department has released their new graphic identity that features a forward-facing panther head.

While Greenville University embraces the rich history that created its legacy, it affirms the value of facing forward to welcome the future.  The redesigned forward-facing panther head indicates this postureThe panther's ears are pinned back, ready for action.

In the same way, Greenville University athletes are prepared not only for games and matches, but tests, internships and jobs.  Ready to take on new challenges, they will carry their success at Greenville University into the world.  A variation of this logo utilizes the outline of the academic shield icon.

Greenville University will celebrate its new identity once again on September 20, 2017, on the 125th anniversary of the institution's first convocation ceremony in 1892.

"While there is much to celebrate in this transition, our identity as a university is not our ultimate goal; our goal is to use that identity to extend our heritage and expand our reach to new generations of students," explains Greenville University President, Dr. Ivan Filby. "Our identity as Greenville University clarifies our expansion with growing graduate programs and growing global reach, helping us better narrate the mission of our institution to provide a transformational, Christ-centered educational experience that empowers, enriches and endures for generations."

Greenville University provides a quality liberal arts education for over 1,400 students. It offers over 50 traditional undergraduate majors on campus and 15 adult and graduate programs available online, on campus and at partnership locations.
