Guidelines

Criteria

The individuals to be recognized must have been outstanding athletes, coaches, friends, or teams whose identification with the Athletic Department has been unique and exemplified the ideals and standards of Greenville University.

  1. Athlete – The athletes to be recognized must have exhibited superior athletic achievement while representing Greenville University.  Athletes are eligible for nomination five years after the completion of their intercollegiate eligibility.  They must have attended Greenville University for a minimum of two years.  The individuals must have demonstrated a strong association to the philosophy and ideals of Greenville University and the Athletic Department.
  2. Coach – The coaches to be recognized have had a coaching tenure at Greenville University or are alumni that have demonstrated excellence in coaching outside of Greenville University.  These individuals must have displayed a strong connection to Greenville University Athletics as well as the philosophy and ideals of Greenville University.
  3. Meritorious Achievement – The individuals to be recognized must have achieved an unusually high degree of success in their chosen field.  They must have been associated and involved with Greenville University.  They have exhibited a dedication and loyalty to Greenville University Athletics as well as the philosophy and ideals of Greenville University.
  4. Pioneer – These persons must have been associated and involved with Greenville University before the University’s modern athletic programs.  They are people that have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics before, during, or after their associations with the University.  They are dedicated and loyal to the philosophy and ideals of Greenville University and the Athletic Department.
  5. Team – The teams must have shown superior achievement in the field of athletics while representing Greenville University.  These teams embody the ideals and standards of Greenville University and the Athletic Department.

Selection Mechanics

  1. Candidates for Hall of Fame selection may be nominated by Greenville University staff, interested alumni, and friends.
  2. Final selections will be made by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.  This Committee is appointed by the Athletic Director.  It is encouraged that the Committee consists of Athletic Alumni from the periods:  Pre-1960, 1960-1969, 1970-1979, 1980-1989, and 1990-1999. 2000-2009, 2010-2019 and the Athletic Director.
  3. Names of nomination are to be forwarded to the Hall of Fame Selection Committee c/o Athletic Director, Greenville University, Greenville, Illinois.
  4. Nominations and supporting information are to be submitted by January 31 of the same year that the Hall of Fame Selection Committee meets to select inductees.
  5. Induction ceremonies for Hall of Fame honorees will be held every year at the Homecoming Honors Banquet.
  6. Candidates remaining active for four consecutive meetings and not elected will be removed from the active list.  They cannot be considered for one meeting.  They must be re-nominated to be considered.
