Baseball nipped by DePauw

MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- The baseball team opened their 2017 season with a 6-5 loss to DePauw at USA Stadium.  Travis Ralls hit a solo homer for Greenville.

Phillip Reedy drew the start for Greenville, and he allowed DePauw to gain three runs in the first inning.

In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers scored twice on back-to-back home runs by Travis Ralls and Shane Olmsted.

DePauw added a run in the top of the third, but Greenville took the lead with a three-run fifth.

The Panthers scored three runs in the fifth inning.  Ralls hit a shot to the third baseman that was misplayed, giving Greenville two runs.  Olmsted delivered an RBI single.

DePauw added singe runs in the sixth and seventh.

Reedy pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs and four overall.

Austin Rexroad, Bryce Pearce, and Klaiton Wolff threw scoreless innings.

The Panthers (0-1) play Millsaps and Rhodes on Saturday in Memphis.
