Baseball picks up road win at Westminster in doubleheader split

FULTON, Mo. -- The baseball team split a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday as they defeated Westminster 4-3 in game one before falling 3-0 in game two.

The teams traded gooseeggs over the first four innings, and Greenville broke through with three runs in the top of the fifth.

Danny Strohm delivered an RBI groundout, and Travis Ralls recorded a two-run double in Greenville's three-run fifth.

Klaiton Wolff extended Greenville's lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the sixth.

Westminster attempted a comeback with three runs in the sixth inning, but reliever Bryce Pearce snuffed out their rally.

Jonah Moore improved to 4-1 as he pitched into the sixth inning in the first game.  He limited Westminster to three runs on three hits.

Klaiton Wolff pitched a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts to notch his fourth save.

The second game ended in a 3-0 decision in favor of Westminster.

Westminster jumped ahead with a run in the first inning and then added two runs in the seventh.

Greenville was only able to muster five hits, as Adam Lamb, Jesse Getz, Austin Marsh, Chandler Dix, and Strohm recorded singles.

Phillip Ready only permitted three runs, one earned, in seven innings as he allowed eight hits.  He struck out four as his record fell to 1-1.  Devin Mayfield threw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Panthers (9-11, 1-3 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Wednesday in a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.
