GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team celebrated Senior Day by honoring their seniors between games of a doubleheader sweep over Spalding.  The victories gave Greenville a tie for the SLIAC Eastern Division championship.  Greenville produced a 3-2 game one win and capped the day with a 4-3 win in the bottom of the ninth in game two.

The Panthers jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning.  Adam Lamb doubled, and Travis Ralls singled.  However, the throw to the plate from the center fielder was off-line and got away from the catcher, letting Lamb motor home for the first run.  After Ralls reached third base later in the inning, Klaiton Wolff sacrificed to the second baseman which allowed Ralls to trot home.

Spalding tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth, and Greenville scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice bunt by Ralls that scored Lamb.

Phillip Reedy was the winning pitcher, going six innings and limiting Spalding to two runs, one earned on five hits.  He struck out three to improve his record to 3-1.

Wolff closed the game, only permitting a runner to reach base via an error, in collecting his seventh save.

Between games, the Panthers honored seniors Max Gabriel, Devin Mayfield, Mike Hardin, Reedy, Tristan Wesselman, Shane Olmsted, and Caleb Miles.

Game two was a back and forth affair, capped by Chandler Dix's game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth.

Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third following an RBI single by Gabriel.

They expanded the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Jesse Getz posted an RBI single.

Spalding cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth, but Greenville got the run back in the bottom of the seventh when Olmsted scored on an error.

Spalding came back in the top of the eighth and scored a run when Ralls tried to pick off a runner at third base, but the throw ended up in left field.  Spalding tied the game in the top of the ninth.

Greenville's game winning rally started in the bottom of the ninth when Austin Marsh led off with a double.  Olmsted recorded an infield single that advanced Marsh to third before Dix's game winning knock.

Starting pitcher Lamb worked into the ninth inning as he threw 8.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits.  He struck out two.

Reliever Austin Rexroad worked out of the ninth inning jam when a runner was cut down at home plate trying to score.

The Panthers (26-14, 16-6 SLIAC) will enter the SLIAC tournament on Thursday with a game against Westminster or Fontbonne at 2 p.m.
