Baseball drops pair on Saturday

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team closed their home opening weekend with an 11-7 loss to Dubuque Saturday's first game, followed by a 15-4 setback by Chicago in game two.

Dubuque's 7-0 lead after two and a half innings was too much for the Panthers to eliminate as the Spartans won the day's first game.

Jesse Getz, Adam Lamb, Travis Ralls, Sam Hodges, and Grant Carman all had two hits for the Panthers in game one.

Lamb and Hodges knocked in two RBI.

Austin Marsh took the pitching loss as he only got through 2 1/3 innings while giving up seven runs, four earned, to fall to 0-1.

Caleb Watts pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Tucker Rappe produced two innings without allowing a run.

Game two went to Chicago as they scored nine runs in the fifth inning to take control of a 2-2 game.

The Panthers could only muster six hits in the game, and Getz had two of them.

Jonah Moore was the losing pitcher.  He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs to drop to 0-1.

Austin Rexroad provided a scoreless inning, and Lamb pitched two innings and did not allow an earned run.

The Panthers (1-4) travel to Millikin for a single game on Tuesday.
