GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team bounced back with a pair of wins over Eureka on Friday in Greenville. The Panthers received a 3-0 victory in game one as Adam Lamb hurled the shutout, and the Panthers got a game-winning home run from Andrew Torbeck in game two to win 7-6 in 10 innings.
Leaning heaving on Lamb's left arm, the Panthers got all three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Travis Ralls came up with a two-run two-out single, and then he later scored. Ralls scored after a wild pitch sent him to second base, and then he stole third base. On the attempt to throw Ralls out at third, the catcher threw the ball into left field, and Ralls came home.
Lamb was virtually spotless. He only permitted three hits and a walk. He struck out six.
Game two required a comeback effort from Greenville, and when they were down early, the Panthers feared that they would run out of time before rainfall would prevent them from playing the entire game.
Greenville took the early lead in the bottom of the second when two runs scored on RBI singles from Klaiton Wolff and Sam Hodges.
A six run top of the third inning from Eureka bounced Greenville starting pitcher Austin Marsh, and the Panthers had to claw back into the game.
GU got one of the runs back immediately in the bottom of third with another RBI single from Wolff.
The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Marsh singled with one out and went to second on a walk to Joe Wood. Bryce Pearce hit a ball to third base that the third baseman threw away, and Marsh was able to score.
In the bottom of the seventh, Greenville tied the game. Ralls produced an RBI single after the catcher dropped a foul ball, and the tying run scored on an RBI infield single by Marsh.
The players dodged raindrops throughout the end of the game, but Torbeck saw through the rain to give the Panthers the win on the first pitch he saw in the 10th inning.
The Panther bullpen was spectacular in game two. Logan Murphy went 3 1/3 scoreless innings, and he yielded way to Austin Rexroad for two scoreless. Wolff gained the winning decision with two scoreless innings.
The Panthers (7-8) were originally scheduled to host Webster in a doubleheader on Saturday, but the games were postponed to a later date. They host another top SLIAC team in Westminster for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
