Baseball falls to Webster in SLIAC tourney

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team opened SLIAC tournament postseason play on Thursday with a 14-7 loss to Webster in the first round.

Greenville took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Travis Ralls tripled to right field and a chopper by third baseman Klaiton Wolff bounded over the third baseman and into left field for an RBI single.

Webster answered immediately with four runs, and extended the lead to 6-1.  In the fourth inning, Jesse Getz made it a two run game with a three-run homer.

The Panthers made the score 6-5 in the top of the fifth with an RBI single from Chandler Dix.

The Gorloks got two of those runs back immediately, but Ralls hit a two-run home run to left center  to bring the score to 8-7.

Webster scored six unanswered runs over the rest of the game.

Getz and Dix each posted three hits for Greenville.

Starting pitcher Bryce Pearce went 4.1 innings and allowed eight runs, six earned.

The Panthers (20-19) play Westminster on Friday at 5 p.m. in an elimination game.
