Baseball drops a pair to Illinois Wesleyan

O'FALLON, Ill. - The baseball team met Illinois Wesleyan at O'Fallon Family Sports Park for a doubleheader on Wednesday.  Greenville fell in the first game 6-3 and then dropped the second game 12-2.

Greenville took an opening 1-0 lead against the Titans in the second inning of game one when Andrew Torbeck tripled and crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

Starting pitcher Adam Lamb held IWU at bay until the sixth inning.  In the top of the sixth, the Titans managed to add three runs, and they tacked on another run in the seventh.  Lamb departed with the bases loaded in the sixth.

Greenville made the score 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh when the team received RBI singles from Joe Wood and Mark Islas.

IWU gave themselves some breathing room in the top of the ninth with two runs against Austin Rexroad and Chad Plath.

GU got two of their seven hits from Wood.  Lamb ended up pitching five innings and held the Titans to two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts.

Game two saw Greenville take a 1-0 first inning lead after a triple from leadoff man Ryan Taylor and an RBI single from Jaime Quesada.

IWU scored six in the second inning and three in the third for a 9-1 advantage.

Greenville made the score 9-2 with an RBI single from Sam Hodges in the third inning, but the Titans pushed across two runs in the sixth and one in the ninth for the 10 run win.

Taylor ended up scoring both of Greenville's runs.

Starting pitcher Sam Alender gave up nine runs in three innings to pick up the loss on the mound.  Luke Rushik hurled two scoreless innings in relief, and Jesus Lozano had one scoreless inning of relief.

In their next action, the Panthers (4-4) are scheduled to play Central (Iowa) on Friday at Robert E. Smith Field in a doubleheader.
