Baseball goes to 8-0 in SLIAC with win at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The baseball team rolled to a 14-3 win at Principia on Friday as the Panthers posted nine runs over the last three innings.

Greenville took an early 3-0 lead over Principia and carried a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning.

In Greenville's three-run first, Sam Hodges gave them an RBI single before GU scored a run with the benefit of an error by the catcher. They made it a 3-0 game with an RBI single from Ty Maxie.

After Principia scored once in the bottom of the first, Klaiton Wolff launched a two-run homer to provide a 5-1 lead.

Principia added single runs in the third and fourth innings to make it a 5-3 game.

In the top of the seventh, Greenville received another RBI single from Hodges and was followed with an RBI single from Andrew Torbeck. A second run scored on Torbeck's hit when the rightfielder committed an error.

Greenville scored in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout by Clarence Falls.

In the top of the ninth, Wolff contributed a sacrifice fly, and Torbeck crossed home plate after he stole third base and the catcher had an error.

Falls later provided a two-run single, and Ryan Taylor had an RBI double.

Overall, Hodges, Torbeck, and Falls led Greenville with two hits.

The Panther winning pitcher was Sam Alender who provided six innings on the mound. He permitted three runs and struck out eight.

Lukas Whitten took the mound in the seventh inning and finished the game with three innings for the save.

The Panthers (16-7, 8-0 SLIAC) head back to Principia on Saturday for a doubleheader.
