Baseball wins 10th straight in DH sweep at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The baseball team continued their perfect start to the SLIAC season with a doubleheader sweep of Principia.  The Panthers were 13-4 winners in game one and took game two 9-2.

In game one, Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Andrew Torbeck's solo home run.

The Panthers received three runs in the top of the third when Austin Lawrence had an RBI groundout, and Sam Hodges hit a two run home run.

In the bottom of the third, Principia added a run, but the Panthers got two runs in the top of the fourth to open up a 6-1 lead. Clarence Falls had an RBI groundout, and Ryan Taylor added an RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Principia scored twice, and they scored once in the sixth inning to cut GU's lead to 6-4.

The Panthers exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh.

Klaiton Wolff scored Greenville's first run of the seventh on a passed ball, and Torbeck provided an RBI triple and also stole home as part of a double steal.

Falls added an RBI single, and Wolff was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for an RBI.

GU later cleared the bases on an error by the shortstop.

Jonah Moore started the game on the mound and went 3.1 innings, permitting three runs on six hits.

Logan Murphy, the game's winning pitcher, allowed one run in 2.1 innings of relief.

In the bottom of the sixth, Wolff came in to pitch and got Greenville out of a jam, and after their seven run outburst in the seventh, Hunter Cullum closed the game with a scoreless inning.

Torbeck, Devin Gumb, and Falls all provided two hits for GU.

In game two, Greenville opened with a run after Lawrence's hit to the pitcher and errant throw provided Taylor with the opportunity to score. Lawrence later scored on a double play groundout by Torbeck.

In the bottom of the third, Principia hit a solo home run, and Greenville scored twice in the top of the fifth when Falls scored on a wild pitch and Wolff provided a sacrifice fly.

Principia made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the fifth, and the Panthers got five runs over the last three innings to provide the breathing room they needed.

GU received a solo home run from Taylor in the top of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Isaac Whitten had an RBI fielder's choice, and Taylor gave Greenville an RBI groundout.

In the top of the ninth, Hodges scored on a wild pitch, and Ty Maxie gave Greenville a sacrifice fly.

Adam Lamb started on the mound and completed six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts to move to 4-2 on the season.

Cole Becker, Austin Rexroad, and Wolff gave GU three scoreless innings of relief.

Lawrence and Maxie had a multi-hit game for Greenville.

The Panthers (18-7, 10-0 SLIAC) go to Westminster for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
