GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The football team led 30-13 going into the fourth quarter but allowed 27 fourth period points by Iowa Wesleyan as they fell short 40-37 on Saturday.
The Panthers took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with rushing touchdowns from Derek Greifzu and Jonny Pruiett.
Iowa Wesleyan got on the scoreboard with a touchdown, but Isaiah Coleman returned the fumble on the point after attempt for two ponts.
Greenville closed the first half scoring with a second touchdown from Pruiett to take a 23-6 lead.
Iowa Wesleyan cut the deficit to 23-13 with an early touchdown in the third quarter. With 50 seconds left in the third period, Corbin Quinonez caught a nine yard touchdown pass from George Harris to take the 30-13 lead.
Iowa Wesleyan scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give themselves a 33-30 lead, but Greenville marched straight down the field to regain the lead when Harris connected with John Dudley on a 27 yard touchdown pass with 73 seconds to go.
Iowa Wesleyan's quarterback led the Tigers on a drive that ended when he kept the ball for a one yard touchdown run with 39 seconds to play.
Harris compiled 197 passing yards as he completed 13-of-23 passes. He had two touchdowns and an interception on Greenville's last possession when his pass was deflected into the hands of Iowa Wesleyan.
Greifzu came up with 74 rushing and 50 receiving yards.
Pruiett ran the ball 18 times for 67 yards.
Greenville's Steven Oscar led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackle.
The Panthers (0-3, 0-2 UMAC) face Westminster next Saturday.
