DECATUR, Ill. -- The season opening football game did not finish in Greenville's favor as the Panthers suffered a 76-3 defeat against Millikin. The contest was Greenville's only non-conference tilt of the season leading up to UMAC play on September 9.
Greenville fell behind 27-0 after one quarter and took a 48-3 deficit to halftime.
Bradley Stubbs hit a field goal from 23 yards to put the Panthers on the scoreboard.
The Panthers limited Millikin to just seven points in the third quarter before the Big Blue placed 21 points on the scoreboard in the final period.
Freshman defensive back Luke Lambird paced Greenville's defense with seven tackles, and Terry Dixon picked up a tackle for a loss of yards.
The Panther offense was challenged to sustain any drives all night as they were held to only nine first downs.
Quarterback Chris Knight was 10-of-20 for 57 yards, including a long pass of 10 yards. He rushed 15 times for a net of 22 yards.
Running back Jonny Pruiett was the leading rusher with 29 yards on 10 carries.
Receiver Derek Greifzu gained 35 receiving yards on six catches.
The Panthers (0-1) face St. Scholastica on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Noon in Greenville's home opener.
