GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The football team outscored Saint Scholastica 27-19 in the second half, but a halftime deficit of 28-0 was too much to overcome in Greenville's 47-27 loss on Saturday.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard early in the third quarter when a pass from Sean Brooks on an end around found Tucker Tompkins wide open for a 46 yard touchdown.
Saint Scholastica marched down the field on the following possession and extended the lead to 34-7.
When Greenville got the ball back an errant pass was taken back by Saint Scholastica for a 78 yard touchdown interception return.
Greenville got the ball back and scored early in the fourth quarter when Damario Vanover ran in a fourth-and-one for a touchdown.
Saint Scholastica once again had an answer and posted a touchdown to make the score 47-14.
Over the remaining 12:48, Greenville posted 13 unanswered points.
Vanover ran the ball in for a two yard touchdown, his second of day, with 3:12 remaining in the game.
The Panthers recovered an onside kick and capped the drive with a six yard touchdown run by Isaih Ibarra with 38 seconds remaining in the game.
Greenville outgained Saint Scholastica by a 451-401 margin in total offense. Greenville compiled 238 passing yards and 213 rushing yards.
George Harris was 18-of-32 for 192 yards passing, and Tompkins had 80 receiving yards on four catches.
Johnny Pruiett was the Panthers leading rusher with 16 carries for 72 yards.
Greenville's defense was led by Bryson Johnson with eight tackles. Anthony Esquivel posted two quarterback sacks.
De'Shon Wellington and Sean Brooks grabbed fumble recoveries.
The Panthers (0-2, 0-1 UMAC) host defending UMAC champion Northwestern on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Noon.
