GREENVILLE, Ill. - The football team managed to score a season-high 28 points, but it was not enough to combat a record-setting performance from Martin Luther as the Panthers lost 63-28 on Saturday afternoon.

The day opened brightly for Greenville when they scored a touchdown on the opening possession of the game.

The Panthers completed a nine-play, 67 yard drive with an 11 yard touchdown pass from George Harris to Greg Franchomme to make the score 7-0 after Rafael Branquinho Soares de Castro's PAT.

The Knights tied the game at 7-all with a touchdown later in the first quarter.

Martin Luther grabbed a 14-7 advantage with a TD just over five minutes into the second quarter, but the Panthers answered on special teams with an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown from Myles Kanipes and an extra point from de Castro to tie the score.

Unfortunately, those were the last points for the Panthers until the fourth quarter.  MLC received 21 points before the end of the half to take a 35-14 lead at the intermission.

MLC outscored Greenville 21-0 in the third quarter to run the Panther deficit to 56-14.

The Knights had a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to achieve a 63-14 advantage, but the Panthers scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to tighten the final score.

In the fourth period, Franchomme connected with Harris on an 10 yard touchdown reception, and Eric Kranh had a 28 yard touchdown reception.

Harris ended the day with 12-of-22 completed passes for 186 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Kanipes was the leading rusher with six carries for 68 yards.

Franchomme caught eight passes for 111 yards.

The Panther defense received 13 tackles from Brock Bullar and Bryson Johnson.  Two of Bullar's tackles resulted in a loss of yards for MLC.

Isaiah Woodhouse and Mark Barigye each had 1.5 tackles for a loss, and Jalen Wilkins added a quarterback sack.

The Panthers (0-4, 0-2 UMAC) will go to Westminster for a game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
