Bass fishing opens at Vandalia Lake Qualifier

VANDALIA LAKE - The Greenville University Bass Fishing Team held their first of three team qualifiers on Sept. 2.

The Panthers fished from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Vandalia Lake, located 20 miles northeast of campus. Seven boats attended the qualifier, with four students weighing in fish.

Lots of boat traffic and recent weather changes set the stage for some tough fishing during Labor Day Weekend. There were reports of many fish under the 14 inch size limit being caught, but the anglers were able to bring 10 fish to the scales as a team.

Cale Jausel took first with five fish for 11.32 pounds.

Nate Overocker placed second with two fish for 3.54 pounds.

Evan Seggerman placed third with one fish for 3.30 pounds.

Shane Campbell placed 4thwith one fish for 2.05 pounds.

Ricky Huge placed fifth with one fish for 1.67 pounds.

The qualifier also served as a practice opportunity for the McKendree Invitational which will be held on Vandalia Lake on September 22.
