Men's basketball downs Westminster in SLIAC play

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team played Westminster for the first time since last season's semifinal matchup in the SLIAC tournament, and Greenville competed as if they had a statement to make as they took a 117-98 win on Saturday.

Greenville raced out to a 63-38 halftime lead as they never trailed in the game.  Greenville's lead reached 27 points early in the second half.

Seven Panthers reached the double figure mark in scoring as Shane Smith led the squad with 21 points.  Elmo Smith had 16 points, and Kenny Greene added 15 points.

Ethan Leib and Michael Hohm each tallied 12 points, Kieshaun Young-Jones had 11, and Johari Dix tossed in 10 points.

The Panthers collected 18 steals and forced Westminster to commit 25 turnovers.

Young-Jones was active on defense with seven of Greenville's steals.

Leib led the team in rebounds with five, and Hohm had four assists.

The Panthers (6-2, 1-1 SLIAC) travel to MacMurray for a game next Saturday.
