Men's basketball ascends to first place in SLIAC with 145-99 win over Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team defeated Fontbonne 145-99 on Saturday as they utilized an 83 point second half to crush the Griffins.

Greenville led 68-52 at halftime and forced Fontbonne into 41 turnovers.  Greenville's lead reached a high of 48 points near the conclusion of the contest.

Shane Smith and Michael Hohm each led Greenville with 22 points, followed by Stevonte Young with 21 points on seven three-pointers.

Smith collected seven rebounds, and three Panthers -- Johari Dix, Daniel Saeli, and Kenny Greene -- had five assists.

Hohm tied his career-high with eight steals.

The Panthers (8-2, 3-1 SLIAC) pulled into a first place tie in the SLIAC standings with Westminster and Iowa Wesleyan.  Greenville hosts Buena Vista on Tuesday in a 4 p.m. contest in their final game of 2016.
