Men's basketball improves to 9-2 with 115-108 win over Buena Vista

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team concluded the 2016 portion of their schedule with a 115-108 win over Buena Vista on Tuesday afternoon.  The Panthers reached a 26 point advantage in the second half and held off a surging Buena Vista squad in the final minutes.

Shane Smith was Greenville's leading scorer and rebounder with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Michael Hohm reached 20 points in the contest as well.

Stevonte Young continued his solid play with 17 points.  Over the last three games, Young has averaged nearly 20 points.

Johari Dix reached a season-high in points with 12 and led the team with four assists.

Deandre Brown picked up four of Greenville's 13 steals as Buena Vista tallied 21 turnovers.

Greenville led 64-50 at halftime, and Buena Vista closed the gap as they outscored Greenville 58-51 in the second half.

The Panthers shot 37.4 percent from the field as they made 34-of-91 shots, including a mark of 15-of-51 behind the three-point line.  Greenville made 32-of-45 free throws.

The Panthers (9-2) are off until Thursday, Jan. 5, when Spalding comes to Greenville for an 8 p.m. SLIAC contest.
