Men's basketball tripped up by Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team came up just short as they lost 121-115 to Webster on Saturday.  Elmo Smith gave the Panthers his highest offensive output of the season as he scored 26 points in just 17 minutes.

The Panthers held the lead for the first ten minutes of the game as they had a 33-30 advantage with 10:42 remaining in the first half.  Webster outscored Greenville 39-23 over the remainder of the half to take a 69-56 to halftime.

Greenville outpaced Webster 59-52 in the second half, but they were unable to get closer than three points as Webster held on for the win.

Shane Smith gave Greenville 19 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and four blocked shots on the afternoon.

As a team, the Panthers shot just under 40 percent as they made 43-of-108 shots.  This included a mark of 13-of-50 behind the three point line and 16-of-25 at the free throw line.

Greenville collected 16 steals, and Webster committed 24 turnovers.

The Panthers (12-4, 6-3 SLIAC) travel to first place Westminster on Wednesday night for a game at 8 p.m.
