Men's basketball hangs on for 125-119 win at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The men's basketball team was given a difficult challenge as they traveled to Spalding for Saturday's action, but Greenville came back with a 125-119 win over the Golden Eagles.

The Panthers led by as many as 20 points in the first half before allowing Spalding to cut their lead to nine points, 69-60, at halftime.

In the second half, Spalding battled back, taking a four point lead with less than four minutes to play.  Greenville rose to the occasion, closing the game on a 15-5 run to take the win.

Greenville's top offensive point producer was Kenny Greene, who had 19.

DeAndre Brown gave the Panthers 17 points, and Elmo Smith followed with 16 points.

The top rebounders for Greenville were Johari Dix and Elmo Smith, each with six.

Shane Smith sparked Greenville with nine steals, a career high for him.

The Panthers (16-4, 10-3 SLIAC) travel to Principia for make-up game on Monday at 7 p.m.  They are playing the game from January 14 that was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Panthers are tied with Westminster with identical 10-3 conference marks with five games to play as they are attempting to win their second consecutive SLIAC regular season championship.
