Men's basketball hangs on for win over Westminster

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team held on for a 118-112 victory over Westminster on Saturday.

Greenville wouldn't relinquish their lead at any point in the second stanza, but Westminster managed to tighten the score during the second half.

The Panthers took a 60-50 lead to the intermission and pushed their lead to 25 with 18:02 remaining in the game.  The Blue Jays gradually worked their way back but could not get any closer than six points as Greenville took the rematch of last year's SLIAC tournament championship game.

Greenville's top two scorers were non-starters as Rakim Murphy led Greenville's scoring attack with 19 points, and Johari Dix had 15 points.

Of the starting five, Riley Simmons reached 12 points and Isiah Price totaled 11 points.

Barry Nixon and varsity newcomer Justin Cross led Greenville with seven rebounds.  Price added five assists.

The Panthers (3-4, 1-1 SLIAC) play on the road for the remainder of the first semester.  They travel to Iowa Wesleyan next Saturday.
