Men's basketball erases 15 point deficit to defeat Principia

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team recovered from a deficit of 15 points with just over six minutes remaining in the game as they defeated Principia 133-129 on Tuesday night in H.J. Long Gymnasium.

The Panthers battled back all night but finally took the lead in the final 90 seconds when Marvin Bateman's three-pointer gave them a one-point lead.  A layup by Bateman extended the lead to three, and Principia never again led.

Greenville won despite being outshot by over 35 percent in the game.  Principia made 77.9 percent of its field goal attempts compared to Greenville's 42.5 percent clip, but Greenville collected over 50 more shots as they forced Principia into committing 31 turnovers.

The Panther scoring attack was led by Sonti Grady and Johari Dix who each had 23 points.  Vari Bonney added a season-high 21 points.

Greenville outrebounded Principia 48-46, and they collected 20 steals.

Barry Nixon and Riley Simmons paced Greenville on the boards with six rebounds, and Dix was the team leader with six steals.

The Panthers (8-6, 5-2 SLIAC) remain in second place in the SLIAC standings, and they host Spalding on Saturday at 3 p.m.
