Men's basketball posts strong second half in 111-99 win at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The men's basketball team won their third SLIAC game on the road as they took a 111-99 victory at Fontbonne on Wednesday night.

The teams traded leads in the first half, and Fontbonne ended the first period with a 58-55 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Greenville scored the first eight points to go on top 63-58 in the first 90 seconds, but Fontbonne reversed their fortunes and regained a lead.  The Panthers were able to regroup and eventually push their lead to double digits to end the game.

Eric Williams set a new career high with 31 points in the game as he made 14-of-24 field goals, 2-of-6 three pointers, and 1-of-2 free throws.

Barry Nixon and Marvin Bateman each produced a double-double.  Nixon scored 11 points with 10 rebounds, and Bateman added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers tied Fontbonne in rebounds with 72 each, but the Panthers piled up an astounding 40 offensive rebounds and took 49 more shots than FU.

Greenville forced the Griffins into committing 37 turnovers and collected 29 steals.  Josias Parker led GU with seven steals, and Johari Dix had six steals.

The Panthers (8-4, 5-0 SLIAC) host Spalding on Saturday at 3 p.m.
