Men's basketball routs Spalding in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The nation's top scoring team was back on the court on Wednesday in Louisville as the Greenville men's basketball team captured a 151-117 win over Spalding.

Coming off back-to-back games when they set the SLIAC scoring record with 167 points last Thursday followed by 200 points on Saturday, the Panthers used 151 points on Wednesday to increase their leading scoring average to 135.9 points per game.  If the Panthers end with a scoring average over 132.4 points per game, they will set the new national standard for all-time points per game in a season.

On Wednesday, Eric Williams had 31 points to improve his scoring average to 24.3 points per game.  Williams finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards in the game.

Johari Dix and Swade Edwards each had 17 points for GU, and Dix also added team-leading marks with nine assists and five steals while also providing six rebounds.

Just like Williams, Barry Nixon landed one rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Marvin Bateman and Isiah Price each finished with 15 points.

The Panthers led the game 73-58 at halftime and came back after the intermission to out-distance Spalding 78-59 in the second half.  The Panther lead reached 41 points with 2:19 to go in the game.

The Panthers (15-6, 12-2) are in a first place tie with Webster in the SLIAC standings with four conference games to play.  Greenville goes to Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday for a game at 3 p.m.
