Men's basketball defeated by Wabash at Carroll tournament

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The men's basketball team faced Wabash on Friday night and suffered a 137-131 loss in the Carroll University tournament.

Greenville managed to gather 19 steals off 35 Wabash turnovers in the game, but the Panthers could not overcome a Wabash team that made 56-of-83 field goal attempts (67.5%) and 21-of-24 free throws (87.5%).

Sontiago Grady was leading scorer for GU with 21 points on 8-of-24 shooting, including 4-of-10 three-pointers, and a mark of 1-of-1 at the free throw line.

Barry Nixon had a season-high 20 point outing, and Quincy Pinkard also had a season-high 19 points.

Kameron Vinsel, Rakim Murphy, and Riley Simmons all provided 13 points.

Greenville's assist leader was Henry Johnson with six, and Johnson tied Chris Jackson for the team-high with four steals.

Greenville trailed 65-63 at halftime but led on several occasions in the second half. The game was tied at 121-all with 3:19 left in the game, but Wabash made a pair of free throws soon thereafter and never again relinquished the lead.

The Panthers (1-4) play Simpson on Saturday in the consolation game of the tournament.
