Men's soccer tramples Lincoln Christian 9-1

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's soccer team evened their record at 5-5 heading into the conference portion of their schedule with a 9-1 victory at Francis Field on Thursday.

The Panthers nearly met their goal output for the season in one match as they struck for six first half and three second half goals.  The Panthers started the match with 11 goals this season and ended the night with 20 for the campaign.

Caleb Carpenter opened the scoring for Greenville with the first goal of the night in the 15th minute.

Jonathan Moyo posted the game-winning goal in the 28th minute before Carpenter tacked on a penalty kick tally in the 31st minute.

Jon Adams entered the scoring column with a marker in the 38th minute, and Charles Dalton followed with a penalty kick goal.  Adams closed the first half scoring with a goal just before time expired.

In the second period, Luis Ortiz gave Greenville a 7-0 lead before Lincoln Christian slipped a ball past Michael Gonzalez to make the score 7-1.

Moyo provided Greenville with an 8-1 lead with his second goal of the game, and Jeff Bien-Aime gave Greenville the 9-1 advantage with a strike in the 78th minute.

Bueno had three assists in the contest, and Moyo had a direct role in a third goal when he added an assist.

Greenville utilized four goalkeepers.  Jesus Hernandez worked a perfect first half.  He was followed by Gonzalez for nearly 24 minutes, Peyton Markos for close to nine minutes, and Noah Matthews for almost 12 minutes. 

The Panthers host MacMurray at 5 p.m. on Saturday in their first SLIAC match of the season.
