Men's soccer topped at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. -- The men's soccer team was dealt a 3-2 defeat at Principia on Saturday as they fell just short of upsetting a SLIAC leader. 

Principia got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute with a goal, but Greenville answered about a minute later with Adam Jones fourth goal of the season.

Principia added a pair of goals in the last 10 minutes of the half to take a 3-1 advantage to the intermission.

The Panthers kept Principia from scoring in the second half, and Caleb Carpenter's team-leading seventh goal of the season cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 82nd minute.

Greenville managed to take 13 shots in the match, including seven shots on goal.  Principia had 12 shots on goal, and GU goalkeeper Nick Holland had nine saves.

The Panthers (6-7, 1-2 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Thursday at 5 p.m.
