Men's soccer records 9-0 shutout over Welch

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team rested their key players in advance of Saturday's showdown with Fontbonne, but they still managed to dominate Welch 9-0 on Friday night.

The Panthers took 43 shots in the match and limited Welch to just five shots as they received six first half goals and three in the second half.

Napoleon Urquidi opened the scoring for Greenville in the fifth minute, and Christian Gomez scored at the eight minute mark.

After a scoring drought of 18 minutes, Matt White got the Panthers back on the scoreboard in the 26th minute.  Before the half ended, Sebastian Rojas scored twice, and Adrean Love had one goal.

In the second half, Henrique Fernandes, Renan Obayashi, and Brent Lehr posted goals for GU.

Rojas ended the match with the two goals.  Fernandes added a goal and an assist while Vanja Radulovic tallied two assists.

Goalkeepers Jesus Hernandez, Michael Gonzalez, and Noah Matthews combined for the shutout.  Hernandez had two saves, and Gonzalez and Matthews each had one.

Obayashi and Andrew Cordova were the leaders in shots with five apiece.

The Panthers (10-2) play at 8 p.m. on Saturday night at Fontbonne.
