ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The men's soccer team competed against Webster in the semifinals of the SLIAC tournament on Thursday night and advanced to the SLIAC championship match for the first time since winning the tournament in 2011.  The Panthers tied the Gorloks 0-0 in double overtime and went to the finals with a 3-2 victory in penalty kicks.

Both teams had a number of opportunties to score.  Greenville was outshot 20-15, but the Panthers led by a 7-4 margin in shots on goal.

Jared McPeek paced the Panthers with six shots, including two on goal.  Napoleon Urquidi and Juan Jose Herranz each added four shots for Greenville.

Goalkeeper Nick Holland produced his seventh shutout with three saves.  Ruben Martinez thwarted Webster's best scoring attempt by clearing a ball off the goal line.

After 110 minutes of scoreless soccer failed to determine the winner, the match went to a round of five penalty kicks.  Greenville went with a reserve goalkeeper in Michael Gonzalez who only allowed two goals to slip past.

Greenville shot first in the penalty kicks, and Edgar Bueno scored on GU's first try.  Webster tied it at 1-1, and Max Schimmelpfenning put Greenville back on top 2-1.  WU tied it at 2-all on their second kick.

Juan Garcia and Webster's kicker missed the third round, and Greenville took a 3-2 lead with a goal from Herranz on their fourth shot.  Webster failed to convert any other kicks as Gonzalez held them out of net.  Webster's final shot went wide left.

"The decision to go with Gonzalez was determined well in advance," said head coach Chris Swift.  "Honestly that's been the plan ever since Gonzo was a freshman and he's a junior now.  Every time that we've had discussions about 'PK's' its been that its going to be Gonzo."

The Panthers (14-4-2) face Iowa Wesleyan at Francis Field on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a trip to their fourth NCAA Division III national tournament on the line.  Greenville previously won the SLIAC tournament in 2008, 2010, and 2011.
