Men's soccer comes back, knocks off Westminster 2-1 in overtime

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team defeated Westminster 2-1 in overtime on Saturday to begin the SLIAC portion of their schedule with a victory.

Jared McPeek provided both of Greenville's goals as the Panthers recovered from a 1-0 deficit.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Panthers outshoot Westminster 8-3, Greenville fell behind in the 72nd minute when the Blue Jays scored a goal.

Just over nine minutes later, McPeek's shot found the net as Juan Garcia and Napoleon Urquidi added assists. The match went to overtime in a 1-1 tie.

Seventy-six seconds into overtime, McPeek scored the winning goal with an assist from Cam Whitehead.

The usually physical conference battle saw the teams combine for 29 fouls and four yellow cards.

Luis Duran led Greenville with three shots. McPeek, Garcia, Jonathan Moyo, and Andre Dos Santos all had two shots.

Goalkeeper Nick Holland faced nine shots from Westminster, and he had six saves on seven shots on goal.

The Panthers (5-5, 1-0 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
