Men's tennis drops match to St. Ambrose, smashes Knox

MOLINE, Ill. -- The men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to St. Ambrose before rallying to drop Knox by a perfect 9-0 score on Saturday.

The Panthers faced a tough challenge in St. Ambrose as they opened Saturday play.

Greenville gained victories in two of the three doubles matches before falling in four of the six singles matches.

The No. 2 team of Blake Gocey and Austin Burkhart took an 8-4 win, and No. 3 team of Jeremiah Brannon and Dustin Vincent were 8-6 winners.

The No. 1 team of Nate Wieland and Justin Tilford dropped a 9-8 decision.

No. 3 Tilford brought back a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles, and No. 6 Brock Renshaw took a 6-0, 7-5 win.

No. 2 Gocey was topped in a third set tiebreaker.

Greenville dominated Knox from the outset in their 9-0 win.

Tilford and Wieland grabbed an 8-1 win, and Gocey and Burkhart took an 8-3 victory.

Tilford, No. 4 Burkhart, and No. 5 Micah Harlan were perfect 6-0, 6-0 winners.

Wieland only dropped one game in a 6-0, 6-1 decision.

Two matches were not contested as Knox had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.

The Panthers (4-2) face Messiah in Hilton Head on Monday, March 13.
