Men's tennis splits two matches in Iowa

IOWA - The men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday on a trip to Coe and Cornell. In the day's opening match, Greenville fell 6-3 to Coe and then came up with a 5-4 win against Cornell.

Vs. Coe

GU opened the day with a 6-3 loss to Coe.

Greenville won one of the three doubles matches with the No. 1 team of Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez coming out on top 8-5.

In singles competition, GU won two of the six matches. No. 2 Rodriguez defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-4, and No. 5 Luke Motsinger was a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 winner.

Vs. Cornell

The Panthers defeated Cornell in a 5-4 match to return home with a win.

Two doubles teams came out on top in their matches.

The No. 2 doubles team of Clark Kent and Motsinger captured an 8-4 win, and the No. 3 duo of Jordi Matuhen and Thibaut Tignee shut out their opponents 8-0.

In singles, the Panthers were winners in three matches.

No. 2 Rodriguez won his second individual match of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 outcome.

No. 4 Kent and No. 5 Motsinger each won as well.

Kent took a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win in three sets, and Motsinger was a winner 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).

The Panthers (13-6) will host Illinois Tech on April 1.
