Men's track and field collects second straight SLIAC championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's track and field team won its second consecutive SLIAC championship with a 245 point effort in their conference championships on Friday and Saturday.  They won by 51 points over runner-up Webster.

Greenville commanded the field events, gaining six of its eight conference championships off the track.

Greg Mitchell grabbed a pair of wins in the jumps.  He cleared 1.98 meters (6 feet-6 inches) in the high jump and posted a distance of 14.11 meters (46-3.5) in the triple jump as the team's only two-event winner.

Greenville won all of the throwing events.

Mitchell Hooten reached a distance of 42.03 meters (137-11), in the discus for first overall.

Benjamin Perry had a throw of 48.44 meters (158-11) in the hammer.

Matthew Hughes posted a 48.19 meter (158-1) toss in the javelin, and L.C. Washington collected a 14.2 meter (46-7.25) effort in the shot put.

On the track, Andrew Sharp was the winner in the 800 meter run with a time of 1.54.88, and Dylan Goodyear was the champion in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:38.99.

The Panthers travel to Monmouth for a meet next Saturday.
