Sharp, Mitchell, and Mangold head to NCAA Division III nationals

The NCAA Division III outdoor national track and field championships takes place over a three day period starting on Thursday, May 24. This year, three members of the men's track and field team will be competing in La Crosse, Wis.

The Panthers will send Andrew Sharp in the 800 meter run, Greg Mitchell in the high jump, and John Mangold in the 1500 meter run.

Sharp has competed in the NCAA Division III outdoor national championships for the last three years, earning fourth place in 2015, second in 2016, and seventh in 2017.  Only six other male Greenville track and field athletes have claimed as many All-American honors as Sharp.

Mitchell and Mangold will be participating for the first time.  Mitchell is the first men's track and field athlete from Greenville to qualify in the high jump since 2003, and Mangold is the first in the fifteen hundred since 2001.

Mangold will open competition for the Panthers on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.  On Friday, Mitchell's high jump competition begins at 11 a.m., and Sharp will run at 5 p.m.

Saturday's 1500 final will take place at 12:25 and the 800 final is scheduled at 1:50 p.m.

The men's track and field team is currently ranked 12th in the Midwest region and 38th nationally as they enter the national championships.
