GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team recorded a pair of wins over MacMurray on Saturday in games both shortened by the mercy rule. Greenville took a 13-5 win in six innings in game one, followed by a 9-0 shutout win in five innings in game two.
Greenville's offense was powered by Tiffany Samsoe, Kate Jolliff, and Josie Koontz in the first game, as the three women combined for 10 of Greenville's 14 hits.
Samsoe led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 game, and Koontz was 3-for-3. Jolliff went 3-for-4.
Greenville led 3-0 after the first inning following Samsoe's two-run homer and Cayla Speaks RBI single.
The Lady Panthers extended the lead to 7-0 when Shelby Cash hit a ball to centerfield that allowed a run to score and Jolliff later hit a three-run home run.
In the bottom of the fourth, Greenville got four runs. Samsoe produced an RBI double, Speaks hit into a fielder's choice that scored a run, Nina Escalante-Allen walked with the bases loaded, and Koontz got an RBI single.
The Lady Panthers added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. An error by the shortstop in an at bat by Jolliff scored a run, and Samsoe ended the game with an RBI double.
Brianna Anderson recorded the win in relief as she came in to snuff out MacMurray's rally. Anderson struck out six in 2.1 innings in gaining her fifth win.
Greenville blanked MacMurray in the second game as they scored one in the first, two in the third, and six in the fourth.
Jolliff added an RBI single in the first inning to get the scoring started.
Samsoe hit a two-run homer in the second inning.
In the fourth inning, Nicole Geissberger hit a ball that was misplayed to score their first run of the frame. Emi Hug added an RBI single.
Cash came up and provided an RBI double, and Jolliff cleared the bases with a two-run home run.
Anderson earned the win in the circle with a five inning complete game shutout. She only permitted one hit and struck out five to improve to 6-3.
The Lady Panthers (11-8, 4-0 SLIAC) go to Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday for a doubleheader.
