Softball takes care of business at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. -- The softball team took two more conference wins as they set up a showdown for the regular season conference championship on Saturday.  They defeated Eureka 4-1 and 12-4.

Greenville posted single runs in the fourth through seventh innings in game one.

An RBI double by Becca Oldham gave Greenville the 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Cassandra Lueking homered, and Cayla Speaks hit a home run in the sixth inning.

Greenville's final run came in the seventh when Kate Jolliff's single to left field was misplayed and resulted in a run by Tiffany Samsoe.

Brianna Anderson pitched the seven inning complete game as she gained the win.  She allowed one run on five hits and struck out four.

Game two was controlled by Greenville from the outset as they scored twice in the first inning on errors.

Eureka made the game 2-1 in the bottom of the first, but Greenville answered with four runs in the third.  Oldham hit a ball to center field and an error was charged, resulting in a pair of runs.  Shelby Cash later added an RBI double, and Amanda Atteberry hit an RBI single.

Oldham's fourth inning ball hit to the shortstop allowed two runs to score, and Josie Koontz posted an RBI single in the fifth.

Eureka spread three runs over the fifth and sixth innings, but Samsoe got them back in the top of the seventh with a three run home run.

Caitie Opp was the winning pitcher as she worked five innings.  She struck out six and only permitted three runs, one earned.

The Lady Panthers (21-12, 14-2 SLIAC) travel to Washington-St. Louis for a single game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before facing Westminster on the road on Saturday for the SLIAC championship.
