Greenville tightens race for SLIAC championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team picked up two victories that kept them in the race for their first SLIAC league championship when first place Westminster came to Panther Field on Thursday.  Greenville won game one 7-4 and took the second game 4-3.

Greenville raced out to a 2-0 lead after the second inning in game one and added five runs in the third inning to hold a 7-1 lead.

Caitie Opp limited Westminster's offense to four runs, but only one was earned in her complete game effort.  She struck out one.

Jordyn Wieland led Greenville with three hits, and Kate Jolliff Rosado, Beth Mersinger, and Amanda Atteberry each added two hits.

Game two saw Greenville lead 4-0 after five with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Rosado had a hit, scored a run, and drove in two runs.

Maegan Stone threw a complete game, going all seven innings.  She earned her team leading seventh win of the season.

The Panthers (18-15, 15-3 SLIAC) have clinched an appearance in the SLIAC tournament next week as one of it's top two seeds, but they will not know their seeding until the conclusion of Westminster's conference play.
