Softball cruises to SLIAC Championship game appearance

ST. ANN, Mo. -- The softball team advanced to the championship game of the SLIAC tournament for the fifth consecutive year with a 6-0 shutout win over Westminster on Friday.

Greenville pitcher Caitie Opp held Westminster to just three hits over seven innings in the complete game win.  She struck out three and retired the last eight batters of the game in order.

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Kendall Farr hit a two-run homer.

Greenville added two runs on a fielder's choice hit by Oldham in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, Amanda Atteberry delivered an RBI single, and Kate Jolliff Rosado provided an RBI single in the seventh inning.

The Panthers (20-15), winners of 12 consecutive games after starting the season at 8-15, will play Westminster in the SLIAC championship game for the second time in three years and will attempt to gain its third straight appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament.
