Softball falls to Millikin in two games

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team hosted their first home games of the season and suffered identical 9-3 losses to Millikin on Thursday.

The opening game of the doubleheader was scoreless until the second inning when Millikin put four runs on the scoreboard and benefited from a pair of errors.

Greenville cut the lead to 4-2 with a two run homer from Kendall Farr in the bottom of the fourth, but Millikin got three runs in the top of the fifth to establish a 7-2 lead.

Millikin added two runs in the top of the seventh.

Farr went 3-for-3 in game one and closed the game with four innings pitched in relief.

Caitie Opp received the start in the circle and allowed four runs, one earned, in three innings.  Farr permitted five runs, four earned.

Game two saw Millikin take a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Deidra Holzhauer came to bat with a runner on base in the bottom of the inning and smacked a home run to tie the score.

In the top of the fifth, Greenville allowed seven runs in the frame.

The Panthers added a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Holzhauer.

Holzhauer finished 1-for-4 with all three RBI.  She also started in the circle and gave up six runs over 3.1 innings.

Cayla Speaks allowed three runs in her relief appearance, and Maegan Stone held Millikin at bay with 3.2 scoreless innings.

The Panthers (6-4) travel to Webster for a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday.
