ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The softball team took a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon at Webster. Greenville won the opening game 8-7 and the second game 8-3.
The Panthers came from behind to win game one. Webster took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third before the Panthers answered with three in the top of the fourth.
Greenville got RBI singles from Deidra Holzhauer, Amanda Atteberry, and Alyssa Delgado in their three-run third.
Webster responded immediately with a run to tie the score at 3-all.
In the fifth inning, Beth Mersinger produced an RBI single, and the Panthers pushed across four run in the top of the sixth.
Greenville's sixth inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Maegan Stone, an RBI triple by Megan Barrett, and a run by Barrett on a passed ball.
Caitie Opp started the game in the circle for the Panthers and pitched into the sixth inning. She left the game in the sixth after allowing five earned runs over five innings but earned the win to improve to 2-1.
Maegan Stone entered the 8-5 game and got out of the sixth inning jam unscathed. Webster added two runs in the bottom of the seventh and left a runner stranded at second when Stone recorded the final out and her first save.
Holzhauer, Stone, and Atteberry each had two hits in game one.
In game two, Greenville scored the first run of the game on an RBI single from Holzhauer. Webster reached Stone, Greenville's starting pitcher, for three runs in the bottom of the first, but the Panthers responded in the top of the second with a pair of runs to tie the game. Atteberry scored on a wild pitch, and Megan Barrett delivered an RBI groundout.
Both teams posted zeros until the sixth inning when GU took the lead when a run scored on an error by Webster's first baseman.
In the top of the seventh, the Panthers added their insurance tallies with four runs.
Cayla Speaks provided an RBI double, Barrett had a two-run single, and Holzhauer added an RBI single.
Barrett and Atteberry ended game two with three hits apiece. Stone and Atteberry also scored twice.
The Panthers (8-4, 2-0 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Wednesday at Panther Field in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
