Softball loses pair at Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The softball team suffered a pair of losses to Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday. Greenville fell 3-2 in game one, followed by a 9-2 loss in game two.

In game one, the Panthers scored twice in the first inning when Beth Mersinger hit a two-run single. The Tigers cut the defict to 2-1 in the fourth before winning with a two-run seventh inning.

Caitie Opp started in the circle and only completed one inning. Cayla Speaks pitched 5.1 innings and permitted three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.

Game two was controlled by Iowa Wesleyan early with three runs in the bottom of the second.

Speaks had a run-scoring single in the top of the third.

The Tigers had expanded their lead to 8-1 after the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth, GU scored their last run of the day when Amanda Atteberry singled.

Maegan Stone worked one-third of an inning allowing three runs on three hits. Opp returned to the circle with 5.2 innings of relief. Opp permitted six runs on 10 hits.

The Panthers (16-8, 10-4 SLIAC) go to Principia for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
