ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's basketball team played at No. 22 Washington-St. Louis on Wednesday night and were topped 83-56 by the Bears.

Greenville was not able to overcome a shooting percentage of 31.3 percent as they struggled to convert their field goal attempts against a stifling Washington defense which won the rebounding battle by a 48-33 margin.

The Panthers held a 10-9 lead after the first four minutes, but Washington went on a 19-4 run to set the Panthers behind 28-14 after one quarter.  The score was 43-24 at halftime.

A dominant third quarter by Washington saw them outscore GU 26-7 and extend their advantage to 69-31.

Greenville shaved the deficit with an encouraging fourth quarter effort that saw the Panthers nearly double the Bears offensive output.  The Panthers outscored Washington 25-14 in the final stanza.

GU's leading offensive point producer on the evening was forward Wesley Woodard who collected 13 points.

Morgan St. James came one rebound shy of a double-double for Greenville with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Maria Reinhard added 12 points and a team-high four assists.

Outside of its shooting effort, Greenville handled the ball with care and had 16 turnovers which was five less than Washington's 21.

The Panthers (5-2) travel to Indiana to compete in a tournament at St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Friday and Saturday.
