Women's basketball improves to 9-2

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The NCCAA No. 4 ranked women's basketball team managed to stay on top of the SLIAC standings heading into the Christmas vacation as they traveled to Fontbonne and won 61-48 on Saturday.

The Panthers were led by the inside-outside scoring tandem of Wesley Woodard and Meredith Crosier who posted 15 and 14 points, respectively.  No other Panther exceeded six points.

Greenville's rebounding efforts saw them outpace Fontbonne on the boards by a 38-30 margin.  Crosier paced the squad with nine caroms.

The Panthers held a 16-12 lead after the first quarter, but a second period that saw Greenville end with a 25-16 scoring advantage allowed GU to take a commanding 41-28 lead at the half.  The teams scored equal totals of 12 and eight points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Jantzen Michael and Maria Reinhard were GU's assist leaders with four each.

The Panther (9-2, 4-0 SLIAC) return to action on Wednesday, January 3, in H.J. Long Gymnasium against MacMurray.
