Women's basketball steps closer to SLIAC title with win at MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The women's basketball team crushed MacMurray 90-43 on Saturday as they outscored the Highlanders 52-13 in the second half.

Greenville led 19-10 after the first quarter and allowed MacMurray to stay in the game in the second quarter as they took a 38-30 advantage to halftime.

A dominant 30-5 third quarter put the game out of reach, and the Panthers outscored MacMurray 22-8 in the fourth quarter.

Maria Reinhard posted 18 points to finish as Greenville's leading scorer. Reinhard added four steals.

Morgan St. James chipped in 17 points, and Laura Goodnight added 14 points.

The Panthers leading rebounder was Ellaina Davis with eight, and Kelly Lenz had the high assist mark with six.

Greenville (17-4, 12-1 SLIAC) moved two games ahead of Eureka with the win after Eureka dropped their second game of the week.

The Panthers will clinch no worse than a share of their first SLIAC championship since 1996-97 with one conference win in their last three games, and they will win the outright championship with two wins. The outright championship comes with the hosting responsibility for the SLIAC tournament.

The Panthers return to action on Monday at Oakland City.
