Women's basketball nipped on buzzer beater

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- The women's basketball team squared off with NCAA Division II Oakland City in a rare February non-conference game and lost 86-84 on a last second three-pointer after taking an eight point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Panthers fell behind 26-21 after the first quarter but came back to take a 50-46 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Greenville outscored Oakland City 18-14 to make the score 68-60 after three periods.

OCU scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to take the lead, but GU began to score and went back-and-forth with Oakland City for the rest of the contest.

Greenville took a one point lead on a layup by Kelly Lenz with 10 seconds to play.  After a time-out, Oakland City's Alicia Wilson's three-pointer went through the bucket with no time remaining in the game to give them the victory.

Maria Reinhard was GU's top scorer in the game with 15 points and passed out a team-high six assists.  Morgan St. James and Meredith Crosier each had 13 points.

Laura Goodnight missed a double-double by a rebound as she ended with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Panthers (17-5) host Blackburn in Greenville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
