Women's basketball inches closer to SLIAC championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team nearly doubled Blackburn's score as the Panthers took a 90-47 win on Wednesday night.

Laura Goodnight was the game's top scorer with an 18 point performance.

Maria Reinhard added 12 points for Greenville, and Kelly Lenz and Jantzen Michael posted 11 points.

Greenville took the lead immediately, grabbing a 27-13 lead after the first quarter.  They added to their lead and held a 55-23 advantage at halftime.

The second half saw Blackburn's defensive effort improve.  The Panthers outscored the Beavers 14-11 in the third quarter and 21-13 in the final period.

Meredith Crosier, Reinhard, and Michael paced Greenville on the glass with six rebounds each.

Lenz produced seven assists, and Goodnight had three blocked shots.

The Panthers (18-5, 13-1 SLIAC) moved one win away from its first SLIAC title since 1996-97.  They hope to reach that milestone next Wednesday at Spalding after a weekend free of games.
