Women's basketball survives OT battle with Millikin

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team opened their 2018-19 season with a 93-86 overtime win against Millikin at the Illinois College tournament on Friday afternoon.

Wesley Woodard recorded 20 points to lead Greenville in scoring.

Jantzen Michael posted 19 points, including eight points in the overtime period when the Panthers took control of the game.  Michael and Woodard combined for all 14 of Greenville's points in OT.  Michael also added three steals.

The Panthers led 23-20 after the first quarter, but Millikin took a 45-43 lead to halftime.

Greenville bounced back to lead 60-55 after the third quarter, and the game was knotted up at 79-all after regulation.

Ellaina Davis and Emily Brandland controlled the boards for GU with eight rebounds each, and the Panthers outrebounded Millikin 44-38 in the game.

Lauren Eagleson offered a superior effort with 12 assists off the bench, and Megan Barrett tallied 14 points and seven rebounds.

The Panthers (1-0) face Illinois College on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
