GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team hosted Lincoln Christian in their first home game of the season and breezed to an 86-35 win over the Red Lions.
GU set the tone immediately, taking the opening tip and receiving a three-pointer from Jantzen Michael on their first shot of the game. Greenville parlayed their quck start into a 27-11 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was almost as impressive. The Panthers held a 50-17 lead at halftime.
Greenville came out in the third quarter and outscored Lincoln Christian 20-9, and they closed the game with an advantage of 16-9 in the final period.
Greenville's scoring leader was Wesley Woodard who made a perfect 6-of-6 field goal attempts and 2-of-2 free throws to end with 14 points.
Emily Brandland received her first start of the year and posted 12 points while Michael finished with 11 points.
The Panthers won the battle of the boards with a 39-33 rebounding advantage.
Greenville's full court pressure caused LCU headaches all night as the Panthers forced 28 turnovers on 20 steals. Hannah Krukewitt managed to collect four steals.
Lauren Eagleson passed out five assists in her first start, and Morgan St. James was a force on the inside with six blocked shots.
The Panthers (2-1) open SLIAC play on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. when Eureka visits H.J. Long Gymnasium.
