Women's basketball handles MacMurray to take 17th win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team topped MacMurray 82-66 at home on Monday night to keep their perfect SLIAC record intact and capture their 17th win in 20 games.

Greenville took control of the game in the first half, taking a 52-18 lead to halftime.  The Panthers outscored MacMurray 29-10 in the first quarter and 23-8 in the second.

MacMurray tightened the game in the second half, but Greenville still led 64-39.  Greenville permitted 27 points in the fourth quarter and held on for a 16 point win.

Emily Brandland finished as Greenville's top scorer for the second time this season with 17 points in the contest.  Brandland made 5-of-10 field goal attempts, including one three-pointer, and all six of her free throw attempts.  Her 17 point outing surpassed her total of 16 in the team's November game against Eureka.

Morgan St. James and Wesley Woodard each reached double figures in the scoring column.  St. James contributed 11 points, and Woodard had 10.

Greenville held a 41-26 advantage in rebounds, led by St. James with eight.

Brittany Lopez found a way to create scoring opportunities for her teammates as she ended with eight assists and helped GU with two steals.

THe Panthers (17-3, 11-0 SLIAC) travel to Spalding for a game at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on Wednesday in a matchup of the first and second place teams.
